Questions about the practice

Frequently asked questions.

Where does Dan practice?

Throughout Maine, in both state and federal criminal matters.

Where are you located?

Dan chose Pineland Farms in New Gloucester as a place where clients can focus on meeting with him, and he can focus on their cases. Its convenient location, peaceful setting, and privacy help make that possible. Cases are stressful enough.

60 Pineland Drive, Suite 211
New Gloucester, Maine 04260

Why solo practice?

Keeping the practice small allows Dan to be selective about the cases he accepts and deliberate about his caseload. Clients receive direct access to their lawyer, careful attention from beginning to end, and strong value for their legal fees.

Does hiring a trial lawyer mean my case will go to trial?

No. A lawyer’s willingness and ability to try a case can strengthen negotiations. Dan uses his trial experience to develop favorable facts and defenses and make their significance clear to prosecutors. That preparation can help achieve a favorable resolution without trial, while keeping trial a credible option.

Is my case “too small”?

No. Dan accepts privately retained cases in every class of crime. His work includes passing a stopped school bus, driving to endanger, OUI, misdemeanor domestic violence, and murder. He enjoys the variety within criminal defense and understands how much each case matters to the person facing it.

How are privately retained cases billed?

All privately retained cases are handled on a flat-fee basis. The fee and scope of representation are set out in the engagement agreement.

How can I make a payment?

Dan accepts credit cards, debit cards, bank checks, personal checks, and cash. A payment link for credit or debit cards is generally included with the contract. The initial flat fee is paid up front, with a separate trial fee in most cases. Separating the trial fee keeps the initial cost more manageable.

Are meetings by appointment?
